Ploughing Championships

25th Sep '14

Today we went to the ploughing championships in Stradbally in Laois. It was ok. This year there were over 200'000 visitors there over the course of three days. It took us two hours on the bus to get there which was quite tiring. When we got there we were straight in the crowds looking at all the farm machinery, animals and stalls. It was soo crowded it was hard to get around. Myself and my friend Bronwyn went around together and we entered some competitions and got a couple of free pens. We went to some of the food tents like aldi and tesco and I got to taste lots of nice samples like ice-cream and cheeses, but it was hard to get to them because everybody was crowded around these stalls. We only had two hours to look around the very large area and we only got to see a fraction of it. I personally didn't find it as exciting as people had so enthusiastically boasted about it, to me it was just a crowded mess of trying to scramble through people to look at farm stuff. I don't think I'll be going out of my way to put it in my diary for every year. I didn't really learn much about farming or actually see any ploughing while there. But at least now I can say I've been there.

Amazing wood carvings
